In an industry where up to 1% of additives can be legally added without disclosure, true transparency is rare. Explore how traditional brick-oven roasting, natural fermentation, and copper distillation deliver an unadulterated agave spirit without glycerin, artificial sweeteners, or shortcuts.

The Unseen Industry Standard
In the modern spirits world, transparency is rare. Under current Mexican regulations, tequilas can legally contain up to 1% of additives by total volume—glycerin, oak extract, jarabe (sugar syrup), and caramel coloring—without ever disclosing them on the label.
To put that into perspective, 1% may sound small, but in a 750ml bottle, it is more than enough to completely alter the texture, aroma, and flavor profile of the spirit. It creates artificial vanilla notes, masks the harshness of rushed industrial production, and coats the tongue with unnatural sweetness.
For many mass-market brands, additives are a shortcut to consistency. But at Tequila Querendón, we believe that true luxury requires no manipulation.
"Born from the mineral-rich volcanic soil of the Amatitán Valley, true tequila is a pure reflection of the land, requiring nothing more than time, fire, and tradition."
What Does "True Tequila" Taste Like?
When you strip away the artificial enhancers, what remains is the pure, raw expression of the land and time:
Terroir Over Syrups: True tequila tastes like mature Blue Weber agave cooked with patience. It carries mineral warmth, earth, and crisp botanical notes born directly from volcanic soils.
Natural Texture: Instead of thick, artificial glycerin, additive-free tequila delivers a clean, velvety mouthfeel derived strictly from slow fermentation and precise distillation.
Unmasked Finish: The finish is long and evolving—punctuated by natural sweet spices, citrus zest, or white pepper—rather than a lingering, sugary coating.
Our Standard at NOM 1466
Creating additive-free tequila isn't just a label; it’s an uncompromising commitment to traditional craftsmanship at every single stage:
Patient Harvest: We source 100% Blue Weber agaves harvested only at peak maturity (5–7 years) to ensure maximum natural sugar concentration.
The 36-Hour Brick Oven Cook: We slow-roast our agaves in traditional stone hornos for 36 hours, followed by a 10-hour rest to naturally caramelize the sugars without scorching.
Open-Air Fermentation: We ferment slowly using our proprietary natural yeast (Propia), allowing ambient conditions to develop complex, organic flavor compounds.
The Pure "Heart" Cut: Double-distilled in stainless steel and copper Alambique stills, we isolate and keep strictly the "Heart" of the distillation run, discarding impurities rather than masking them with chemical additives.
"If you respect the plant, the soil, and the time required to cook it right, you never need to add anything to the bottle. What you taste is pure agave, entirely unmodified."
How to Taste the Difference
The next time you pour a glass of tequila, take a moment before sipping:
Swirl: Look at how the liquid clings to the glass. Additive-free tequila leaves light, delicate legs (lágrimas), whereas glycerin-heavy tequilas leave thick, syrupy streaks.
Nose: Inhale deeply. You should detect cooked agave, pepper, and subtle earthiness. If the first impression is overwhelming vanilla bean or cotton candy, you are likely smelling artificial jarabe.
Sip: Notice the finish. Pure tequila leaves a clean, warm, and refreshing palate, inviting the next sip naturally.
